The course will take you a major step towards a deeper understanding of the ecological processes taking place on individual, population and community levels. This course is therefore a prerequisite for most other advanced ecology courses given in Uppsala.

The course begins with behavioural ecology and continues with the ecology of populations and communities. The course plan includes lectures, literature seminars, group discussions, computer labs, presentations of novel research, and one larger combined field and literature project.

During the six-day field trip we will stay at Norr Malma, the university’s field station by Lake Erken (80 km east of Uppsala). Here we put special emphasis on the planning and conducting of an ecological study. You will practise statistical methods and give presentations, both orally and in writing.
